Cobar SignCobar Shire Council has been awarded $780,000 under the Stronger Country Communities Fund through the NSW Government. Council is currently working on three applications under this fund:

1. Stage 2 of the Drummond Park Playground upgrade so that the project can be completed in one go.

It is expected that the project will cost in the vicinity of $350,000. Council has sought designs and once funding is approved, these will go on display for the public to see prior to commencing construction.

2. Renewing the Barbeque and Family Area at the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool.

The barbeque was decommissioned at the end of the last swimming season as it was at the end of its lifecycle. Council hopes to install a larger area with two barbeques and a food preparation area, under a fixed shade structure, allowing a couple of parties to be catered for at any one time. Disability access will be provided to the area and landscaping improvements made. This is at a cost of around $100,000.

3. Replacing the roof on the Cobar Youth and Fitness Centre to stop water leaking, this is at a cost of around $300,000.

Council is also busy preparing applications for cultural projects and sport and recreation projects a further grants update will be provided as these projects progress.
