The school is part of the catholic education system administered by the Diocese of Wilcannia-Forbes. St John's is a school supported by the parish and catholic community of Cobar. The school encourages the pursuit of personal achievement and spiritual growth. Religious education allows for the students to learn christian values within the framework of the catholic faith. Library and numeracy is a major focus of each day. Structured literacy and numeracy sessions are designed to enhance the development of reading and writing skills. Inclusivity of students with special needs is a priority. All teaching and learning programs follow government mandated syllabus documents. The school has a modern and well resourced library and recently renovated classrooms and learning areas. The school has an extensive computer network, with every classroom having access to a computer network and all classes having access to the internet. Classrooms have access to Smartboards, Activeboards and a bank of laptops for student use. In 2010 St John's commenced the implementation of a restorative practices program with training for staff, students and parents. This program supplements our behaviour support program for students.
