Ailsa Fitzsimmons OvalAddress Details1 Hillston Road Contact DetailsOrganisation: Cobar and District Rugby Union Football Club DescriptionAilsa Fitzsimmons Oval is owned and used by the Cobar and District Rugby Union Football Club to hold their men's rugby union competition games and training. The Club usually has first and second grade teams that compete in the Western Plains Rugby Competition. Competitions usually begin in May and end in September with all spectators and supporters welcome at home games which are usually held on Saturdays. The grounds include one grassed oval with lights, canteen and bar facilities, toilets and showers, changerooms, club house with stage, large uncover area and grandstands. The Club also hosts special events at the Oval including the annual Rugby Union 10's Competition which is held on the October long weekend annually and boasts a rodeo featuring open bull riding, novice bull riding and charity bucking donkey riding.

Its facilities include a modern club house with canteen facilities, male and female showers and toilets and a dedicated equipment storage shed. The grounds include a dedicated dressage arena, show jumping ring and areas for flat work and sporting events. This is all complimented by an extensive cross country course and a purpose built stable/feed shed complex for 24 horses with a large round yard and 6 day yards. Disciplines offered include camps, certificates, cross country, dressage, grooming, riders without horses and show jumping. The Club aims to meet twice a month usually on Sundays.

The grounds have four tennis courts and a clubhouse with canteen and toilet facilities.

The Centre is open 7am to 9pm Monday to Friday and 1pm to 6pm weekends and Public holidays. KioskThe Centre has a fully stocked kiosk, offering cold drinks, chips, sweets, ice cream, hot chips, pies, sausage rolls, toasted sanwiches, coffee, tea and cappuccinos. Games RoomThe games room comprises two pool tables, television, DVD/video area, computers, a table tennis table and a play station. The games room can be used for a variety of activities including:
Bruce Mitchell StadiumThe stadium has two basketball courts, two netball courts and one indoor soccer field. The Centre runs a senior women's basketball, mixed and ladies netball and mixed soccer competitions throughout the year. The Cobar Junior Basketball Association and the senior men run their own regular basketball competitions. The Stadium is also used for children's playgroups Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Casual users can use the stadium at a casual court hire fee of $1.65 per hour for juniors and $3.85 per hour for seniors. Squash CourtsThere are three squash courts in the Centre. The Cobar Squash Club endeavours to organise squash competitions throughout the year. The Club have also in the past held junior squash coaching days. The Centre also runs a Squallyball Competition usually held on Thursday nights. The courts are also available for hire for $9 per half hour between 7am-4pm and $10 per half hour between 4pm-close. Racket hire is also available for $5.50 per half hour and balls can also be purchased from the kiosk. Harry Marshall GymnasiumThe Centre's gymnasium has a full range of equipment from free weights to fixed equipment and a Cardio Room with treadmills, bikes, etc. The Cardio Room also incorporates an aerobics area. Aerobic classes, run by qualified instructors are offered on a regular basis and a time table can be obtained from the kiosk. Through the school terms, the Western Studio of Performing Arts use the aerobics areas to hold dance classes. Tennis CourtsThe Centre has two outdoor all weather tennis courts, with lighting for evening tennis. Women's social tennis is played Wednesday mornings when the weather permits. Casual hire of the tennis courts costs $8 per court for court hire and $10 per hour if lighting is required. Rest RoomsThe Centre has male and female showers and toilet facilities available. Showers cost $3.85 per person. SaunaThe Centre has one male and one female sauna available for hire. Bookings are required 20 minutes in advance. Cost is $7.70 per person. SK8 ParkThe Centre also features a skate part built with funding from a Department of Sport and Recreation grant and the Cobar Shire Council. The park is open 24 hours and has two quarter pipes, funbox, two junior jumps and four grindrails. There is no cost for the youth of Cobar to use this facility, except when lights are required. Youth CafeThe Youth Cafe is available for a casual cappuccino, hot chips or just to chat. Social events are often held in this area. A number of community groups use the Youth Café on a weekly basis for morning tea

The Club also holds two major annual events being the Copper City Double Rise Championships in May and the Copper City Golden Clay Championship & NSW Junior Championships in August. The Copper City Men's Shed and Buffalo Lodge meetings, along with major annual events, the Cobar Show and Copper City Sheep Dog Trials are also held at Ward Oval The Ward Oval grounds includes three grassed ovals (main Oval Number 1 includes a turf cricket pitch and lights and Oval Numbers 2 and 3 include synthetic cricket pitches), canteen and bar facilities, toilets and showers, changerooms, netball courts, dining rooms, main pavillion with office, grandstands, various stock yards and stables, and other pavillions. The grounds and facilities can also be used by overnight travellers. Council has developed a Master Plan for Ward Oval which includes concept designs for a new multi-purpose centre, upgrades to the oval including athletic facilities, additional lighting, improved show facilities and landscaping. |
