The NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (the department) is the proponent of a fishway at Tilpa Weir (No 24) on the Darling River. The fishway is part of the Fish Passage: Reconnecting the Northern Basin project. The fishway will provide native fish migration and river connectivity.
The Darling River Snail (Notopala sublineata) is listed as critically endangered under the Fisheries Management Act 1994. The proposed fishway will impact on the Darling River Snail, its habitat and the Darling River Endangered Ecological Community.
The department is assessing the activity under Part 5, Division 5.1 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979. Concurrence from the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development – Fisheries is required following exhibition of the Species Impact Statement.
