Footpath Replacement Program

Council was successful in receiving funding from the NSW Government to complete the second stage of the active transport plan.

The project has contributed to improving our community’s infrastructure and promoting active, more sustainable modes of transport.

This project aimed to upgrade the existing footpaths and pram crossings along Louth Road, Goold Street, Bathurst Street, Blakey Street and the CBD.

The footpaths and pram crossings were constructed at the following locations:

Louth Road: from Becker Street to Bradley Street

Goold Street: from Louth Road to Dalton Park

Bathurst Street: from Marshall Street to Mopone Street

Woodiwiss Avenue: from Cobar Golf Course to Tindera Street

PROJECT BACKGROUND

Cobar Shire Council developed an Active Transport Plan in 2019 to identify key infrastructure improvements and social initiatives aimed at enhancing pedestrian and cycling opportunities. The plan focused on improving linkages between key locations and community infrastructure, to encourage active transport, and to improve accessibility and safety of the footpath network for wheelchairs, prams, trolleys, and pedestrians.

Given the limited funds available to undertake these projects, Council has adopted a staged approach starting with the highest priority projects. The first stage of footpath upgrades were completed in 2020/2021.
