Work life balance
Cobar is a great place to raise a family away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Full time staff work a 35/38 hour week over a nine-day fortnight, which allows staff to better balance work and life priorities, with the fortnightly day off equating to an additional five week’s leave each year.

Health and Wellbeing Initiatives
Council offers many health and wellbeing initiatives throughout the year to help maintain both the physical and mental health of our employees. This includes a biennial Health and Wellbeing Day where we show our commitment to these initiatives by shutting down operations to invest in the positive mental health of our employees.
Other initiatives include free membership to the Council owned gymnasium at the Youth & Fitness Centre, a season pass to the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool and annual flu vaccination clinics.
Employee Assistance Program
Council’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a confidential, voluntary and free counselling service provided by qualified counsellors in a range of delivery modes. It is available to staff who are seeking assistance in dealing with any issues affecting their work or life in general.
Council employees are encouraged to participate in our active social club that offers a range of activities throughout the year for staff and their families.
Council employees can access a variety of salary packaging options through an external provider. These options include novated leases, remote area housing, remote utilities and compassionate travel.
