Cobar’s water supply network is a critical piece of infrastructure supporting residents, businesses, and industry across the Shire. To improve the long-term reliability and resilience of the town’s water supply system, Council is constructing a new 5 megalitre concrete reservoir at Fort Bourke Hill, together with a new polyethylene feeder main connecting the storage facility to the town.

The project replaces ageing infrastructure and strengthens the water supply network by providing additional water storage capacity and modern pipeline infrastructure. The new reservoir has been designed to operate under gravity, removing the need for a booster pump and reducing ongoing maintenance and operational costs. With an estimated design life of around 100 years, the reservoir will provide a durable and sustainable water storage solution for future generations.

The project also includes construction of a new feeder main to supplement the existing water supply connections. While two existing asbestos cement pipelines currently service the network, both were installed in the 1960s and are approaching the end of their useful life. The new feeder main will improve system reliability and ensure a continued potable water supply under a range of operating conditions.
