The project involved the construction and sealing of 40km unsealed section of the Wool Track Road.
The additional seal extension will significantly enhance road safety, improve transport productivity and increase the road’s resilience to weather and wear. Â
August 2026Â
This project was proudly funded by the NSW Government in association with Cobar Shire Council.Â
Cobar Shire Council is pleased to announce the completion of the Wool Track Seal Extension Project.
The project has delivered 40 kilometres of new sealed road, extending the total sealed length of the Wool Track within the Shire to 91.6 kilometres. This significant infrastructure upgrade improves access along an important regional transport corridor connecting Cobar, Ivanhoe and Balranald.
The newly sealed section replaces one of the most difficult areas of the route, which was previously among the first sections affected by wet weather closures. The upgrade provides more reliable all-weather access, supports safer travel conditions, and improves efficiency for freight operators, local businesses, residents and visitors. Emergency services will also benefit from improved access during adverse weather events.
